ISLAMABAD: In a bid to curb the upcoming long march organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), authorities have intensified their efforts with reports of raids on PTI workers’ homes and multiple arrests in Jhelum district.
The local administration in Jhelum has finalized plans to block three key bridges to restrict movement during the protest. Additionally, law enforcement agencies are actively conducting raids on residences of PTI supporters, leading to the apprehension of around 80 individuals, with 60 detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) law.
Several containers have been strategically placed on Naya Pul bridge in Jhelum, with reports indicating that bags filled with soil are being added to these containers to increase their weight and obstruct passage. Workers responsible for placing the containers have expressed concern over the prolonged halt at the site, citing worries about potential damage to goods worth millions of rupees and difficulties related to accommodation and food supplies.
Amidst these developments, a meeting of PTI leaders is said to have discussed the possibility of delaying the long march. Most participants reportedly supported postponing the protest to avoid confrontation and ensure safety.
