LAHORE: The All-Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike from October 10 if the government fails to address their demands.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the association chaired by President Nabil Mahmood Tariq in Lahore. Senior Vice President Haji Irfan Sultan, Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, Mirza Arshad Iqbal and other office-bearers participated in the meeting.
The transporters urged the federal and provincial governments to provide relief under their Charter of Demands and immediately return containers seized during recent protests and sit-ins.
They also sought compensation of Rs20,000 and Rs35,000 for transporters affected by the disruptions.
The association demanded an end to the stopping and imposition of fines on vehicles over sales tax invoices, besides calling for a reduction in diesel prices.
Transporters further urged the authorities to honour the commitments made with them during their previous strike.
The association warned that failure to accept its demands or provide the requested relief would result in a complete suspension of goods transport services across the country from October 10.
