ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has acquitted 67 accused individuals due to lack of evidence in a case registered during a 2021 protest staged by a religious party.
Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing on Thursday.
However, the court initiated proceedings to declare the absconding accused as proclaimed offenders.
Defence counsel stated that the accused were charged with offenses including violence and damage to public property.
Defence counsel further noted that the prosecution had failed to provide evidence to substantiate the charges to date.
The case against the accused had been registered at the Shahzad Town Police Station.
