Pakistan, Turkiye, Qatar and Indonesia sign defence cooperation deal

ANKARA: Pakistan, Turkiye, Qatar and Indonesia have signed a defence cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military capabilities and expanding collaboration in defence production, according to Turkiye’s Defence Ministry.

The agreement, known as the Badr Memorandum of Understanding, was signed in Doha on Wednesday, reflecting the four countries’ commitment to expanding defence partnerships and deepening military cooperation.

In a statement, the Turkish Defence Ministry said the accord would promote joint efforts in military production, technical training, research and development, while enhancing the participating countries’ defence capabilities.

The initiative will draw on the respective strengths of the four countries’ defence industries to improve industrial cooperation, expand production capacity and help meet the requirements of allied and friendly nations, the ministry said.

Turkiye, which has NATO’s second-largest military and a growing defence industry, has been assisting Gulf countries in strengthening their defence capabilities. Ankara maintains a military base in Qatar and has continued to develop defence ties with regional partners amid the US-Israeli war against Iran.

In August, Turkiye signed a mutual defence agreement with nuclear-armed Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Under the pact, an attack on one member is considered an attack on all.

Ankara also maintains close defence industry relations with Indonesia, further supporting its efforts to expand military cooperation across the region.

The Turkish Defence Ministry said the Badr agreement would strengthen links between the four countries’ defence industries, promote security cooperation and advance their shared strategic objectives.
