Court rejects Iqrarul Hassan’s bail plea in social media case

KARACHI: A Judicial Magistrate-East court on Thursday dismissed the bail application of Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrarul Hassan in a case involving the alleged circulation of anti-state content on social media.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered Case No. 101/2026 against Hassan under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Hassan’s counsel said the defence would move the Sindh High Court for suspension of the order once the detailed judgment became available.

On October 19, the court had sent Hassan to jail on judicial remand after turning down the NCCIA’s request for further physical remand.

The agency had produced Hassan before the Judicial Magistrate-East and sought his physical custody in connection with allegations of posting anti-state material on social media. However, the court rejected the request and directed the NCCIA to submit the challan within 14 days.

Hassan was arrested in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and later transferred to Karachi, where he arrived at around 1am, according to the details provided.
