PPP demands holding of elections in 90 days as ECP continues to hold meetings with political parties

Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) reitreated its demand to hold general election within 90 days as the Election Commission of Pakistan continued to hold discussion with the political parties.

A six-member PPP delegation comprising former chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Naveed Qamar, Farooq H Nayik, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Taj Haider, Sherry Rehman, Faisal Kareem Kundi met with Cheif Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja today.

Talking to media after meeting with the CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja and other ECP officials, Sherry Rehman and Nayyar Bukhari said that we have apprised our point of view to the ECP that it has 90 days time as per the constitution for holding the upcoming general electioins.

They said that we demanded the ECP to announce the date of the elections as well as schedule of it.

Ex chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said that he didn’t approve the census lonely in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) but all the chief ministers removed the constitutional complication by approving it.

The ECP has so far held consultative meetings on the upcoming general elections with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamat-e-Islami-Pakistan (JIP), Jamiat-Ulama-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F), Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P).

Moreover, the ECP will hold meetings with Baluchistan National Party (BNP) and Awami National Party (ANP) tomorrow on August 30.
