UNSC expected to meet today to discuss serious humanitarian situation in Gaza

New York: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is expected to meet today to discuss the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza as well as Israel’s extensive operation there
.

The United Arab Emirates, which is purportedly drafting a new settlement to end the Israel-Hamas conflict, requested the meeting.

Four drafted resolutions have already been rejected by the UNSC: two that did not receive the required nine “yes” votes, one that the US vetoed, and one that was opposed by China and Russia.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday adopted a Jordanian-drafted resolution by 120-14 votes with 45 abstentions, calling for humanitarian truces leading to a cessation of hostilities.

It is worth noting that while UNGA resolutions are not legally binding, Security Council resolutions are.
