Ahmedabad: South Africa defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets in the ICC World Cup 2023
In the 42nd match of the World Cup2023 played in Ahmedabad, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah won the toss and decided to bat first against South Africa, Afghanistan team was bowled out for 244 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, Azmatullah remained unbeaten by scoring 97 runs apart from this, Rehmat Shah and Noor Ahmed scored 26, 26 runs while Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 25, Ibrahim Zadran scored 15 and Rashid Khan scored 14 runs.
On behalf of South Africa, Coetzee took 4 wickets for 44 runs, Kashiv Maharaj and Ngidi took 2 and 2 respectively , Philokwayo dismissed one player.Afghanistan’s target of 245 runs was easily achieved by South Africa at the loss of 5 wickets in 47.3 overs. Van der Dusen remained unbeaten with 76 runs.Apart from this, Quinton de Kock scored 41 runs and Aiden Markram scored 25 runs, David Miller scored 24 runs, Tamba Bavuma scored 23 runs and Henrik Klaasen scored 10 runs while Felkwue remained not out with 39 runs.On behalf of Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan dismissed 2 players each.
It should be noted that South Africa had already reached the semi-finals while Afghanistan was out of the race for the knockout stage. Today was the last match of the group stage for both teams.
