Islamabad: Pakistan tahreek-e- Insaaf (PTI) founding member Akbar Sher Babar challenged the intra-party election citing violations of the Election Act, 2017
Founding member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Akbar Sher Babar filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday challenging the intra-party polls of the party, terming it ‘sham’ and ‘deceitful’ Babar alleged that not only were the PTI’s intra-party election fraudulent but also a failed attempt to deceive and manipulate the ECP which violated Section 208 and sub-clause 2 of the Election Act2017. He further claimed that the intra-party elections deprived members of PTI of their right to vote and participate in the polls .
Babar also submitted evidence, including video footage, to the Election Commission, stating that key election details were not disclosed even when demanded. He further said the party failed to follow legal requirements.
He urged the Election Commission to declare the intra-party elections null and void, and order the polling afresh with a clear direction to enforce election rules. These instructions should be issued to all major political parties
He added that the party’s symbol of the “bat” may be held in abeyance as long as the PTI does not conduct fresh, transparent intra-party polls according to law.
The petition stated that the Election Act 2017 and the Rules provide the legal framework to ensure that the leadership of political parties is democratically elected and represents the will of its members
