WEB DESK: Research has shown that certain scents can help reduce stress, anxiety and even depression.

According to a study, smelling a scent is more effective than words in evoking positive memories and can also help people with depression to free themselves from negative thoughts.

A study was conducted by the University of Pittsburgh in which 32 people between the ages of 18 and 55 who were suffering from major depressive disorder were recruited, all subjects were exposed to a variety of scents including Vicksvapo rub, ground coffee, coconut oil, cumin powder, red wine, vanilla extract, cloves, polish and ketchup.

Research has shown that a part of the brain called the amygdala helps respond to danger as well as remember things by focusing on specific events, Scents activate the amygdala via nerves, which are connected to our sense of smell
