A dazzling supermoon is set to light up the night sky over Pakistan on December 4-5

ISLAMABAD: The final supermoon of 2025 is set to light up Pakistan’s night sky on December 4 and 5, drawing skywatchers eager to witness the breathtaking celestial display from various observation points.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), this supermoon will appear up to 7.9% larger and nearly 15% brighter than a standard full moon. During this event, the Moon will be positioned at a distance of 357,218 kilometers from Earth.

This mesmerizing phenomenon occurs when the Moon reaches the closest point in its orbit to our planet.

As the third and final supermoon of 2025, it will reach peak brightness—99.8%—on December 5 at 4:15 AM. On the evening of December 4, it will attain 99.2% brightness.

Sky enthusiasts across Pakistan will have the opportunity to admire the spectacle on both nights, with its impressive visibility making it a favored event for photographers and stargazers.

Globally, the supermoon will captivate viewers, offering a stunning display in the night sky. Earlier this year, a supermoon graced the heavens on November 5, while the next one is anticipated in early January 2026. However, that occurrence won’t be categorized within the 2025 supermoon cycle.

Experts highlight an intriguing optical illusion: when a supermoon rises near the horizon, it appears even larger to the naked eye, a phenomenon that has fascinated humanity for generations.
