According to foreign media, an earthquake has occurred in central Tajikistan with a magnitude of 5.2, the epicenter was about 150 km (93 miles) north of Khorugh. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 36 km (22 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of central Tajikistan, southwestern Kyrgyzstan, far eastern Uzbekistan, northeastern Afghanistan, and far western Xinjiang Region in China. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, significant damage is unlikely, due to the earthquake, the power transmission line was damaged It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Light aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
