WEB DESK: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has revealed that he had made the decision to retire from films, a choice he shared with his family before the release of his recent film Laal Singh Chaddha. In a heartfelt joint interview with his ex-wife Kiran Rao, Khan opened up about the personal reasons behind his decision to step away from the film industry.
Khan shared, “I decided to quit before Laal Singh Chaddha. I was going through a personal journey of my own.” Reflecting on his life and career, he explained that the realization came toward the end of the COVID-19 pandemic when he found himself reassessing his priorities. “Towards the end of COVID, I suddenly realized that I had spent the bulk of my adult life from the age of 18 until now—completely absorbed in cinema and films. And in doing so, I felt I hadn’t been there enough for my relationships my kids, my siblings, and my family.”
He continued, “Whether it was with Kiran or Reena, when I was married to them, I felt I hadn’t been present enough. I felt a lot of guilt and discomfort about it. I’ve made so many films over the past 35 years, and now, I feel it’s time to focus on my family.”
Khan went on to recount the emotional moment when he shared his decision with his family. “I sat my family down and told them that I wanted to quit films and spend more time with all of you. That was my reaction—it wasn’t out of any disappointment with the cinema, but rather a realization that I needed to rebalance my life.”
However, Khan also revealed that his children, Ira and Junaid, were instrumental in making him reconsider his decision. “When I told my kids, Ira and Junaid, they both asked me to reconsider. They wanted me to think it over, and I did. I took their words to heart, and they made me see things from a different perspective.”
