ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court in Islamabad will indict seven suspects including former law minister Babar Awan in Nandipur power project corruption case on Monday (today).
Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik will resume hearing on reference filed on delay of the Nandipur project. The decision of indicting Babar Awan and other accused in the case was finalised by Accountability court in the last hearing which was held on March 08.
As the hearing went underway, senior politician Babar Awan withdrew his acquittal plea, followed by strong opposition of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor.
AC approved petition which sought against the acquittal of Babar Awan.
It is pertinent to mention that Babar Awan has served as Adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Parliamentary Affairs.
However, his period as an advisor was very brief courtesy to National Accountability Bureau who filed a corruption reference against him. The filed reference alleged Babar Awan for doing corruption in Nandipur power project.
Filed reference included other prominent faces of Pakistan’s politics such as former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Senior joint secretary Dr Riaz Mehmood and four others.
It is also to be noted that the delay in Nandipur power project had resulted in the loss of whooping Rs27 billion from the national exchequer.
