ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court of Islamabad has adjourned hearing of the fake bank accounts and money laundering scandal case till April 16.
Accountability court judge Mohammad Arshad Malik took up the case with the former president and his sister Faryal Talpur in attendance at the court.
Breathtaking development took place in the case in only it’s first hearing since being shifted to the federal capital.
It occurred when two suspects, namely Kiran and Noureen pleaded before the court to become approvers in the case.
The women claimed that they had also proposed the same request to Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also.
However, their stance faced objection from the defence lawyer.
Moreover, during the course of proceedings, former president and his sister Faryal’s counsel Farooq Naik filed an exemption plea in the court for his clients.
Farooq Naik tabled the point of view that the police can easily manage the hassle if Asif Zardari is out of the place.
Judge Arshad Malik responded that the courtroom is small and when lawyers of all 24 suspects are in the room, it gets crowded and menacing.
During the course of proceedings, NAB prosecutor also added that several hearings have taken place in the same courtroom but such severe conditions have not taken place.
PPP Stalwarts ‘Agitated’
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, talking to media before Accountability Court, expressed anger over deployed police officials’ action of halting lawyers from entering courts’ parameters.
While addressing media, Qamar Zaman mocked that five thousand officials have been deployed for merely five people.
“If lawyers will be restrained from entering the court then who will deal with the cases? What will happen to this scared government if we give a call of jalsa?”, Qamar Zaman said in rhetoric fashion.
Former president Asif Zardari’s counsels Farooq Hamid Naik and Latif Khosa were also prohibited by the deployed officials to enter their cars through entrance door of the Accountability Court.
On this occasion, Latif Khosa was quoted saying, “I have not seen such an incompetent government. Despite being such a senior lawyer, I have been directed to halt so far back”.
