After Trump’s Threat, India restraint Purchasing Russian Oil

NEW DELHI: Following a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, India’s state-owned oil refineries have halted their purchases of Russian oil.

Sources told foreign news agencies that four Indian oil refineries ceased buying oil from Russia last week. According to the news agency, India is the third-largest importer of oil globally and the biggest buyer of Russia’s maritime crude oil.  The refineries and the Ministry of Energy have not commented on this development.

It is worth noting that on July 14, U.S. President Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on countries importing oil from Russia. Yesterday, Trump announced a 25% trade tariff and additional penalties on India for purchasing weapons and energy from Russia.

In a recent statement, Trump also announced a trade agreement with Pakistan, saying that the U.S. will take steps to increase Pakistan’s oil reserves. He added, “Perhaps one day, Pakistan will make it in oil with the U.S., just like India.”
