AG report unearths failures of FBR as it fails to collect Rs 80 billions despite issuing 3000 notices

Islamabad: Auditor General of Pakistan has unearthed failures of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in collecting the taxes as the FBR could not collect Rs 80 billions despite issuing more than 3000 notices.

According to the audit report owing to unavailability of correct calculations of earning of more than 1173 defaulters the country’s exchequer faced a loss of Rs 104 billions.

As per the audit report, as many as 519 defaulters didn’t pay withholding tax on provision of services, supply and on contracts. Despite that the FBR didn’t take any action.

The FBR has no any final deadline for recoveries of many non-recoveries.

As per the audit report, Rs 11 billions were not recovered owing to not imposing late payment default surcharge on 2604 tax defaulters.

Similarly, the country exchequer incurred a loss of Rs nine billions as wholesalers, retailers, distributors didn’t pay the income tax.

The auditor general had also pointed out non-recoveries in previous years.
