Cheema, Shahid Shafiq Handed Over To NAB For 15-Day Remand

Lahore (March 05, 2018): The Accountability Court in Lahore on Monday handed over former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema and Chief Executive of Bismillah Engineering Services Shahid Shafiq to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a 15-day physical remand.

During the hearing of Ashiana Housing scandal, Ahad Cheema and Shahid Shafiq were presented before the court. The NAB officer alleged that Cheema did fraud in the scheme by misusing his powers, adding that Shahid Shafiq got the contract by submitting fake documents.

The officer requested the court for physical remands of both after which, verdict was reserved that was announced later.On  February 26, Shahid Shafiq was handed over to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a physical remand till March 5.

Shahid Shafiq was arrested on the identification of former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema after it was discovered that Rs.14bn contract had been granted to Bismillah Services despite the company being a C-4 category subsidiary company of Paragon City.On February 21, the NAB arrested Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former director general Ahad Cheema in relation to the Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal.

The bureau has been conducting an inquiry against the officials of the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC), Lahore Casa Developers, Lahore Development Authority and others, said a notification issued by NAB Lahore.

The aim of the Ashiana housing scheme – an initiative of the Punjab government, was to provide economical and adequate residential facilities to the people with low-incomes and the government had invested Rs2 billion while acquiring 672 kanals of land in the Multani Harlan area near Darbar Baba Noor Shah.Earlier Ahad Cheema appeared before NAB two times but he didn’t appear on the third call. Later NAB ordered to take action according to schedule 2 and he has been arrested from Punjab Power company office located at M.M Alam Road. He has been shifted to the NAB office.
