ISLAMABAD: Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during the opening ceremony of ‘Space Week 2024’ at Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F/6-He predicted that AI will significantly impact society over the next 35 years.
Addressing the public, he expressed concern that the rise of AI could render a billion people irrelevant in the job market. “While the world is already utilizing AI, we in Pakistan are just beginning to explore its possibilities,” he noted.
Highlighting the challenges faced by Pakistan’s youth, which numbers between 15 to 18 million, he affirmed the government’s commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities. Dr. Maqbool stated, “In today’s modern age, everyone should have equal access to opportunities.”
He remarked on the Qur’an’s emphasis on knowledge, asserting that it guides individuals toward modern education. “No nation can thrive in isolation; collaboration with other countries is essential for trade, business opportunities, and overall development,” he added.
Referencing China’s development model, he pointed out how neighboring countries have turned their populations into assets rather than burdens. “We are fortunate to have a youthful population, and we must harness their potential through skills development,” he urged.
The Minister called on educational authorities to align curricula with international standards, asserting that sending students abroad for studies should be viewed not as brain drain, but as brain training.
Dr. Maqbool underscored the critical role of technology in today’s world, noting that big data is already monitoring our activities. He concluded with a positive note, announcing that schools would soon be equipped with microscopes, alongside telescopes, to enhance scientific education.
