KARACHI: Hanif Gauhar announced that Chinese aircraft are approximately half the cost of comparable Airbus and Boeing models, which could lead to a significant reduction in leasing expenses for the airline. “Thanks to the lower acquisition costs of Chinese planes, we aim to pass these savings on to our customers through markedly reduced fares,” he stated.
Initially, the airline intends to operate domestic flights using these Chinese aircraft. Gauhar mentioned that, at first, Chinese pilots will be flying the planes, while the airline works on training Pakistani pilots and importing flight simulators and spare engines for these aircraft into the country.“We are maintaining close communication with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and there have been no objections raised regarding the use of Chinese aircraft. They are ready to approve our plans,” Gauhar affirmed.
Officials from civil aviation authorities have also confirmed that there are no regulatory hurdles preventing Air Karachi from adding Chinese aircraft to its fleet. This move is projected to cut ticket prices by as much as 40%, according to Gauhar.
The airline’s strategy includes launching domestic routes with Chinese aircraft, with an initial focus on operational readiness. The plan involves training Pakistani pilots and establishing the necessary ground support, including simulators and reserve engines, to ensure smooth integration of these aircraft into the fleet.
