Airlines Cancel Dozens of Flights Between Gulf States and Iran Amid Protests

WEB DESK: Flight cancellations surged on Friday between Gulf states and Iran, with at least 42 services grounded amid ongoing unrest in Iran. Flydubai scrapped 17 flights to Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad, according to Dubai Airports data. No official explanation was offered, but the cancellations coincided with an internet blackout triggered by widespread anti-government protests.

Demonstrations fueled by economic struggles and inflation prompted a severe crackdown by authorities, leading to disruptions in communication and transportation. Flydubai, which has suspended flights during past regional tensions, did not comment.

Turkey also saw airlines halting services. Turkish Airlines cancelled 17 flights, Ajet six, and Pegasus Airlines interrupted operations to Iranian cities. Doha’s Hamad International Airport recorded two flight cancellations between Qatar and Tehran, reportedly tied to the uncertainty in Iran.

Air routes linking Iran with Gulf nations are crucial for travel and commerce, but instability following protests has raised safety concerns. Airlines have historically scaled back operations during similar unrest, adjusting schedules as the situation unfolds.
