MINSK: In the presidential elections of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko won with a landslide victory, securing his 7th consecutive term as President.
According to foreign media reports, in the results of the Belarusian presidential elections, Alexander Lukashenko won with a large majority, obtaining around 87% of the votes. The other four presidential candidates, who were said to be supporters of Lukashenko, could not even secure 5% of the votes.
According to the Belarusian Election Commission, nearly 7 million people were eligible to vote in the elections, and the voter turnout on Election Day was 85%.
It is noteworthy that Alexander Lukashenko first assumed the presidency in 1994 after the independence of Belarus, and since then, he has been continuously re-elected as the president.
