All Suspects Acquitted In Khanani and Kalia Case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Wednesday acquitted all eight nominated suspects in the prolonged scandal case of Javed Khanani and Munaf Kalia, rejecting Federal Burea of Investigation’s (FIA) appeal.

Sindh High Court announced its verdict in the case after eight long years on FIA’s filed appeal on a banking court’s judgement.

Back in 2011, Karachi’s banking court acquitted eight suspects who had allegations of money laundering imposed upon them.

With no proof surfacing against suspects, the court honourably acquitted four suspects of Khanani and Kalia group along with four bank officers.

It may be pertinent to mention that in November 2008, FIA arrested Javed Khanani and Munaf Kaliain a dramatic raid.

The arrest was made over a complaint lodged against one of their franchises in Gujranwala led to the discovery of a parallel money transfer system being operated by their company — KKI — for purposes of transferring money out of the country through illegal hundi/hawala channels.
