Almost 23,000 vehicles blacklist due to unpaid e-challans in Karachi

KARACHI: More than 23,000 vehicles in Karachi have been placed on a provincial blacklist due to unpaid e-challans, officials revealed during a recent traffic review meeting.

Since the launch of the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) on October 27, 2025, authorities have issued over 600,000 electronic challans. The update was shared in a session led by Inspector General Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odho, where Karachi Traffic Police Chief Pir Muhammad Shah provided a detailed briefing on the system’s performance.

During the meeting, officials explained that vehicles repeatedly failing to clear their fines are now being flagged and added to a blacklist as part of stricter enforcement. Authorities also announced plans to begin a crackdown after Eid ul Fitr targeting motorcycles that are operating without number plates.

The IG also expressed concern over the increasing number of traffic accidents in Karachi and instructed relevant departments to prepare a comprehensive report identifying key causes along with preventive strategies.

Despite these concerns, traffic management during Ramadan was described as satisfactory. Officials added that further improvements are underway to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and make the system more user-friendly for the public.
