Alternate Route Plan For Karachi Issued for Youm-e-Ali

Karachi (June 16, 2017): Traffic police have devised alternate route plans in Karachi to keep the flow of things normal on Youm-e-Ali.

Due to the central procession on Youm-e-Ali, Lasbela, Gurumandir, Liaquatabad, Teen Hati, MA Jinnah Road, Preedy Street and Saddar will remain completely closed.

Those coming from Old City area have been advised to take the route from Soldier Bazaar to Coast Guard Office, Jubilee, and Garden.People coming from Stadium Road can take the route from Kashmir Road and Shara-e-Quaideen towards Shahra-e-Faisal.

Four routes have been reserved for the procession’s participants. Those coming from Nazimabad can take the route from Lasbela to Gardan Jamaat Khana and from Soldier Bazaar to Nishtar Park.

Those coming from Liaquatabad will join the procession from Teen Hati to Gurumandir, while those reaching from Gulshan-e-Iqbal can take route going through Old Sabzimandi, Kashmir Road, Society Signal, People’s Secretariat Chowrangi and Nawa-e-Waqt Chowrangi.Earlier Sindh government on Thursday issued notifications banning pillion riding for motorcycles and scooters and the use of ‘heli-cams’ for media coverage on the occasion on Youm-e-Ali.

The ban will be effective from midnight on Friday in Karachi and Hyderabad to maintain law and order, the notifications said.However, the pillion riding ban will not be applicable to “women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies/ security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services.”Another similar notification issued by the provincial government banned the use of “heli-cams” by media outlets for video recording the processions to avoid “any untoward incident.”Notification issued by Sindh Government banning the use of Heli-cams to record Youm-e-Ali processions.

Moreover, cellular services are also expected to be suspended in the city in light of Youm-e-Ali.

Youm-e-Ali is observed on 21st of Ramazan every year to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA).
