Anger, grief in India after 14 children die from toxic cough syrup

Web Desk: Families in Madhya Pradesh, India, are mourning the deaths of at least 14 children who died after consuming a contaminated cough syrup.

According to reports, children in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu have succumbed after drinking this cough syrup. Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of casualties, with 11 children lost due to the syrup. In response to this tragedy, many states in India have banned the cough syrup.


Indian media have reported that dangerous levels of toxic chemicals were found in the cough syrup, leading to a criminal case filed against the pharmaceutical company involved. A doctor has also been arrested in connection with the case. The company is accused of adulterating medications and violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
