BEIJING: China has delivered a significant blow to India by renaming Arunachal Pradesh as Zangnan and changing the names of 27 locations within the region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that, Zangnan is part of China’s territory, and the Chinese government has standardized the names of some parts of Zangnan. “This is within China’s sovereign rights.”
Lin made the remarks in response to media inquiries that India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has released a statement in which it makes clear its opposition to China naming places in “Arunachal Pradesh” (China’s Zangnan), according to Chinese foreign ministry website.
China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs released the fifth batch of standardized geographical names in Zangnan on Sunday.
Following the release, India’s MEA claimed in a Wednesday statement on X calling the China’s standardization of names “vain and preposterous attempts.”
