Karachi (August 25, 2018): Karachi City Court on Saturday extended the physical remand of Chairman OMNI Group, Anwar Majeed and his son till August 27.

The FIA team presented Abdul Ghani Majeed in the court, while Anwar Majeed was not presented in the court due to worsening health.

Court ordered to present medical reports of Anwar Majeed in next hearing.

Earlier on August 17, a banking court in Karachi approved the physical remand of former president Asif Zardari s close aide and Omni Group Chairman Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani till August 24 in money laundering case.

Earlier on August 16, Anwar Majeed his son Abdul Ghani was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate Rizwanuddin in Islamabad.

Federal Investigation Agency arrested Anwar Majeed, a close aide of Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed from the premises of Supreme Court for investigation of alleged money laundering through fake bank accounts.During hearing in the court of Judicial Magistrate FIA requested to shift Anwar Majeed to Karachi from Islamabad.

The court later allowed FIA to shift Majeed and his on to Karachi.

Later, Omni Group Head Anwar was transported to Karachi from Islamabad by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

In the footage, the FIA could be seen trying to handcuff Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani in the airport lounge, following which Majeed snatched the handcuffs and threw them at the floor.

The two were eventually shifted to the FIA commercial banking circle

On August 15, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Anwar Majeed and his son outside the Apex Court.

The court also ordered to place names of Anwar Majeed and his family members on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Anwar Majeed along with his family members appeared before the Supreme Court in fake bank account case.

The decision on forming JIT will be taken later after hearing arguments of the lawyers from both sides, said the Apex Court.

Background Of The Case:

The Supreme Court in July had taken up a suo motu case regarding fake accounts that revolve around a 2015 inquiry into the suspicious transactions when 29 ‘benami’ bank accounts were identified.Seven individuals were found involved in transacting Rs35bn suspiciously.

Seven individuals were said to be involved in using those accounts for suspicious transactions. The accounts were allegedly used to channel funds received through kickbacks.

The investigation revealed that the amount laundered can go up to Rs100billion.
