Appeals Against Khawaja Asif, Firdous Awan Rejected

Lahore (June 26, 2018): An election tribunal on Tuesday rejected an appeal against the candidature of Former Foreign Minister and PML-N’s Khawaja Asif from NA-73 Sialkot-II constituency. 

The petitioner alleged that the former foreign minister had not fully disclosed his assets to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Terming the petition non-maintainable, the appellate tribunal dismissed it, allowing Asif to contest the General Election 2018.  On the other hand,  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan was also given the green signal to contest election from NA-72 Sialkot-I constituency.

A petitioner, Zaid Lateef objected that Awan had not filled the column to disclose details of her marriage and offspring. Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi rejected the petition, stating that the returning officer had accepted Awan’s nomination papers as per the law.

Tomorrow is the last day for decisions by Appellate Tribunals on appeals filed against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers for the National and provincial assemblies’ seats.

The revised list of candidates will be published on Thursday.Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by Friday and the Election Commission will allot election symbols to candidates on Saturday.

Polling for the general elections will be held on 25th of next month.

Tribunal Allows Imran to Contest Polls From NA 131, NA 95:

An appellate tribunal on Monday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan to contest election from NA-131 Lahore constituency. He was earlier allowed to contest polls from NA-95 Mianwali.

The appellate tribunal while rejecting the appeals against the PTI chairman’s nomination papers for NA-131 and allowed him to contest election.

The reserved verdict was announced by Justice Faisal Zaman Khan.

Appellate Tribunal Rejects Petition Against Nisar:

On June 23, petition against former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s candidature was rejected by an appellate tribunal.The petitioner challenged Nisar’s nomination papers from NA-63 constituency. He stated that the candidate was accused in the Supreme Court attack case.

The appellate tribunal dismissed the petition against Nisar’s candidature, stating that the petitioner was not a voter of NA-63.
