RAWALPINDI: The military leadership has warned that any attempt to trigger unrest or replicate the events of May 9 will be met with firm action in accordance with the law.
The warning was issued during the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and chaired by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the conference reviewed the country’s internal and external security situation and resolved that efforts to create agitation or a “May 9-like” situation under any pretext would be dealt with decisively under the rule of law.
The forum also reviewed the regional security environment and reiterated Pakistan’s right to self-defence and to take targeted measures against terrorism originating from Afghan territory.
The military leadership said the Taliban authorities would be responsible for the consequences of facilitating terrorism on behalf of India.
Position on Kashmir reiterated
The commanders reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated position on the Kashmir dispute, calling for its settlement in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Munir praised the commanders for maintaining operational readiness and directed them to further enhance intelligence-based operations.
He also stressed the need to strengthen combat capabilities through modern technology, improved training and greater integration across multiple domains.
The army chief expressed confidence that the armed forces were fully prepared to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
The conference also held a Fateha for personnel of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Pakistan-Saudi-Turkiye defence cooperation
During discussions on regional and international developments, the forum welcomed the signing of the Makkah Defence Alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
The military leadership also condemned attacks by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia and reiterated solidarity with the Kingdom.
The forum reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to protecting the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.
The statement comes amid renewed tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis following a series of cross-border attacks.
The Houthis have previously launched missiles and drones towards Saudi territory and targeted Saudi-linked maritime and strategic infrastructure in the region, while Saudi air defence systems have intercepted a number of such attacks.
