KARACHI: Karachi police have filed a case involving terrorism charges against 400 individuals following a “violent rally” on Sindhi Culture Day, observed Sunday.
The case was registered after one of several rallies held in Karachi to mark Sindh Culture Day escalated into chaos. Authorities employed tear gas and detained 45 participants as they attempted to advance toward the Red Zone via Shahrah-e-Faisal. Among those detained, 12 were subsequently released.
According to police reports, protestors attacked law enforcement officers, which led to the use of baton charges and tear gas deployment. The FIR mentions that cases were filed against 12 individuals arrested at the scene, along with several hundred unidentified attendees, estimated between 300 to 400 persons.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of the unrest and directed immediate actions against those responsible.
Sindh Culture Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of December, originating in 2009. It is marked by events organized by political parties, social organizations, civil society, and government institutions, featuring seminars, discussions, folk music performances, theatrical acts, and literary gatherings showcasing Sindh’s cultural heritage and history.
