Arrest warrant issued for Ali Amin Gandapur in liquor case

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad issued an arrest warrant on Wednesday for Ali Amin Gandapur, the former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a case involving liquor and illegal weapons.

Presided over by Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti, the court noted Gandapur’s repeated failure to appear before it, leading to the decision to issue the arrest warrant.

Authorities were instructed to apprehend and bring the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader to the court. Gandapur’s legal counsel, Raja Zahoor Ul Hassan, was also not present during the proceedings.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned until November 11. The case originates from October 30, 2016, when a police operation in Islamabad reportedly uncovered weapons and liquor from Gandapur’s vehicle.

The items seized reportedly included four Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, a tear-gas gun, and bulletproof vests, which were later displayed at the Bara Kahu Police Station.

Ali Amin Gandapur had stepped down from his role as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on October 8, 2025, following an order from Imran Khan. Describing his position as a “trust” entrusted to him by the PTI founder, Gandapur stated that he was relinquishing it in compliance with Khan’s directive.
