Arshad Sharif murder investigation: Widow seeks court-ordered judicial commission

ISLAMABAD: Soumya Arshad, the widow of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif, has filed a petition with the Constitutional Court, urging the formation of a high-level judicial commission to thoroughly investigate her husband’s murder case. She has called for the inclusion of international experts to ensure an impartial inquiry.

In her plea, Soumya Arshad requested that the court continue the proceedings initiated under her suo motu notice rather than dismissing the case. She emphasized that the investigation should involve summoning the nine individuals accused of being involved and demanding their responses to the allegations.

The petitioner expressed concern over the fact that those named by Arshad Sharif’s mother were not part of the current investigation, which she believes undermines the credibility and comprehensiveness of the probe. She urged the court to summon these individuals and seek their explanations.

Additionally, Soumya Arshad demanded the seizure of properties allegedly linked to the accused in both Kenya and Pakistan. The court is expected to review her petition and decide on the matter at a future date.
