“ASMI” New Machine Pistol handed over to Indian Army in IIOJK

WEB DESK: The Indian Army has equipped with a new and advanced machine pistol named “ASMI” in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This new weapon is part of India’s ongoing efforts to intensify its military operations in the region.

Designed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the “ASMI” functions both as a pistol and a submachine gun. It particularly suited for use in close-quarter combat situations, such as house raids and counterinsurgency operations. Civil society groups have expressed deep concerns over the deployment of this weapon, calling for an immediate ban on its use, as it could further escalate violence and harm the already vulnerable civilian population, including young men, women, and children.

In the backdrop of this military escalation, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has passed a resolution calling for the restoration of Article 370, which granted the region special autonomous status under the Indian Constitution. The resolution, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and National Conference leader Surinder Singh Choudhary, aims to reinstate the constitutional provisions that provided Jammu and Kashmir with its autonomy before they unilaterally revoked by the Indian government on August 5, 2019.

The passing of this resolution reflects growing dissent within the region against India’s ongoing military presence and the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
