Assailant over law enforcement personnel during PTI protest must be punished: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that those responsible for the lawlessness and violence during the November 24th sit-in must face legal consequences.

Chairing a meeting of the newly-formed Task Force addressing the recent law and order crisis in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed his strong condemnation of the rioters’ actions, which not only disrupted the city but also embarrassed Pakistan during the official visit of the President of Belarus.

He further highlighted that a weekly review would be conducted to monitor the progress of legal actions against those fueling unrest in the country.

In a significant move to strengthen law enforcement, the Prime Minister announced the creation of a world-class anti-riot force, equipped with the latest global standards and technology. This new force will be complemented by the integration of a state-of-the-art forensic lab into Islamabad’s Safe City project, bringing it to international standards.

The meeting also revealed that crucial evidence, including weapons, shells, and other materials recovered from the protest site, will undergo forensic analysis. The identification process of those involved in the violence is underway, and once the perpetrators are identified, they will be brought to justice in court. All necessary resources will be mobilized to ensure a swift and fair resolution of the case, reaffirming the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
