ATC acquits Qureshi, sentences 10 years imprisonment to Mahmood, Sarfaraz, Aijaz, Yasmin in May 9 cases

Lahore: An anti terrorism court (ATC) of Lahore on Monday pronouncing a verdict of two further cases of May 9, 2023 incident, acquitted vice-chairman of the PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi while Mahmood Ur Rasheed, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, Yasmin Rashid and Aijaz Chaudhry were sentenced 10 years imprisonment to each.

They were given punishments in the cases of torching police station Shadman, Rahat bakery in Lahore.

The judge of the ATC announced the verdict in Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Two other women leaders of the PTI, Aliya Hamza Malik and Sanam Javed have been punished a five year imprisonment for each in the same cases.

Moreover, Ayesha Bhattha was awarded 10 years jail term in the charge of setting ablaze vehicles near the Jinnah house.

The court also set free 12 accused in the burning of the Shadman police station case. Sohail Khan, Owais, Rafi Uddin, Fareed Khan, Salman Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, Faizan,Tayyeb, Sultan, Shahid Baig, Majid Ali, Bakht Rwan have been acquitted by the court.

It is merit to mention that a few days ago the ATC had given punishment to PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz including others in the torching and vandalizing cases of May 9 incidents.
