ATC gives police another seven days to investigate PTI leader Shabbir Gujjar

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has extended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shabbir Gujjar by seven days in connection with the Jinnah House attack case related to the May 9, 2023 incidents.

Gujjar was brought before the court after his previous physical remand expired. ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul presided over the hearing, while the accused appeared through his legal representatives.

Police sought further custody, informing the court that they needed to recover a mobile phone and a vehicle allegedly connected to the incident.

The investigating officer told the court that the vehicle was believed to have been used during the May 9 episode and needed to be recovered as evidence.

After hearing the arguments, the court accepted the police request and extended Gujjar’s physical remand until November 10.

During the hearing, the defence counsel claimed that Gujjar had been arrested after three years for political reasons.

The investigating officer, however, maintained that the PTI leader was involved in the attack on Jinnah House.

The case was registered under FIR No. 96/23 at Sarwar Road Police Station over the May 9 attack.

PTI leaders nominated in the case face allegations of sedition and inciting party workers to carry out arson and vandalism.
