ATC Grants Farooq Sattar Interim Bail In 5 Cases

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday granted interim bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar in as many as five cases pertaining to inflammatory speech of now disowned MQM founder Altaf Hussain.

The ATC had issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Sattar in the cases after he failed to appear before the court despite repeated summon.

The cases are related to incendiary speech of MQM founder Altaf Hussain to the participants of a hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club on August 22, 2016. Following his speech, the MQM workers had attacked media house.

During the hearing, Sattar said that he had utmost respect for the courts. Satter counsel said that the cases against him were baseless and politically-motivated. He pleaded the court to grant him protective bail in the cases.

The court granted bail to Sattar, ordering him to submit bail bonds in two cases worth Rs250,000 each and of Rs50,000 each in three other cases. The hearing was adjourned till June 9.
