ATC sentences 10 convicts in May 9 violence including 4 Afghan National to six year prison.

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced 10 individuals involved in the May 9, 2023, violence to prison terms of up to six years,alongside fines.

The convicted include Pakistani nationals Abid Mahmood, Ahsan Ayaz, Naeemullah, Matiullah, Shaukat, and Zakirullah Khan, as well as four Afghan nationals: Dawood Khan, Younus Khan, Ehsanullah, and Lal Agha.

The violence on May 9, 2023, led to the registration of cases against 17 suspects the following day. After an extensive investigation, one suspect was acquitted, while six remain at large. The court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the absconding suspects, instructing authorities to apprehend them and present them before the court.

Law enforcement agencies have stressed that individuals involved in masterminding or facilitating anti-state activities, particularly under the guise of protests, will face strict legal action.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to national security, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy toward any activity that threatens the country’s peace and stability.
