Australia beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets In Warm Up Match

Southampton: Australia have made a statement with two consecutive wins in warm-up matches ahead of World Cup 2019. Usman Khawaja’s 89 ensured that Australia chase down the modest total of 240 with 31 balls to spare.

Khawaja anchored the innings and stitched partnerships with Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis to guide Australia to a victory by five wickets. Jeffrey Vandersay picked up a couple of wickets whereas Nuwan Pradeep, Dhananjaya de Silva and Milinda Siriwardana picked up one wicket each.

Earlier Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals which hampered their chances to post a threatening total on the scoreboard.

Aaron Finch used eight bowlers in the match and most of them delivered by taking at least one wicket. For Sri Lanka, opener Lahiru Thirimanne top-scored with 56.

Sri Lanka go into the World Cup with two defeats in the warm-up games.
