Australia: mass shooting leaves 10 dead, 12 wounded at Sydney beach

SYDNEY: A deadly shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach has left at least 10 people dead and 12 others injured after gunmen opened fire on civilians.

The attack occurred when two armed individuals allegedly began shooting randomly at people gathered at the popular beach location. Emergency services quickly responded, and police sealed off the area, urging residents and tourists to avoid Bondi Beach while investigations continue.

Authorities have not yet released full details about the suspects, but the incident has sparked widespread concern across Australia.

Israel’s foreign minister, Gideon Saar, described the shooting as the outcome of what he called escalating “antisemitic rampages” in Australia over the past two years. He claimed that rhetoric such as calls to “globalise the intifada” had turned into real-world violence during Sunday’s attack.

Saar stated that the Australian government had been given repeated warnings and urged it to take stronger action.

According to Sky News, the shooting took place during a Hanukkah celebration held on the beach. Alex Ryvchin, co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, said the gathering was meant to celebrate the Jewish winter festival in a spirit of unity and joy.

“This was our community coming together for a positive and meaningful occasion,” Ryvchin said. He added that if the attack was deliberate, its scale was beyond anything the community could have imagined. Ryvchin also confirmed that his media adviser was among those injured
