Australian Model Lucy Markovic Passes Away After Battle with Rare Brain Condition

WEB DESK: Australian fashion model and Australia’s Next Top Model alumna Lucy Markovic has tragically passed away at the age of 27 following complications from a rare brain condition. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news through a statement shared on Instagram.

“Dear friends and family, we regret to inform you that Lucy has passed away,” the statement read.
“She was at peace. Me, her mother, and my mother were present with her. We ask you to please give us space in these hard times. May Lucy rest in peace.”

Lucy had recently undergone surgery for a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a rare condition involving tangled blood vessels that disrupt normal blood flow between arteries and veins in the brain. She was diagnosed with AVM four years ago and had been managing the condition since then. According to medical experts, AVM is often congenital, though it can also develop later in life, and its cause remains largely unknown.

Tributes have poured in from across the fashion world, led by her management team, who remembered Lucy as a beacon of light, grace, and strength.

“Lucy was a bright shining light, and had an incredible dry sense of humour,” the tribute said.
“Her smile and laughter could light up a room and draw people close to her. She loved to dance, she truly shined. Modelling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are honoured to have shared in that journey. She brought elegance, strength, and authenticity to everything she did.”

Global fashion icon Donatella Versace also expressed her sorrow, writing:

“I am so sorry to hear about Lucy. Rest in peace, beautiful girl.”
