Avenfield Ref: Nawaz, NAB Counsels Exchange Harsh Words

Islamabad (April 09, 2018): Harsh words were exchanged between the counsel of Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Haris and National Accountability Bureau prosecutor when Deputy prosecutor-general asserted that Nawaz Sharif had accepted his employment.

“Does the defence council refuses to accept documents pertaining to the employment,” he inquired during the proceedings of the Avanfield reference filed by NAB today. The proceedings were headed by the Judge Muhammad Bashir. Former Premier Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain(R) Safdar appeared before the court.

During the proceedings the NAB official sought the attention of the court towards the ‘harassment of the witness’ claiming that the counsel for respondent was asking unnecessary questions.

On the other hand, Haris, a seasoned lawyer told Wajd Zia that he had changed his stance on seven instances warning him that ‘he might not get caught in the process’.Earlier Talking to media after court exempted him from the proceedings, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for level playing field for all political groups in the upcoming general elections and said that if any party is pushed against the wall then it would be a pre-poll rigging.

“It should not happen that someone is suppressed or pushed against the wall and the other is given free hand to do whatever they want to do,” he said adding that if this happens then it would be a pre-poll rigging.

He said that remarks were made that the performance of the Punjab province was not good but everyone knows that the performance of the Punjab province is far more better than the other provinces.

“We cannot understand the use of such words against the government,” he said.The PML-N supreme leader said that statement from the chief justice for timely elections and rejecting a judicial martial law is the right decision but the event occurring in the back drop including sidelining him from premiership and party presidency and the Senate elections negate his remarks.
