AWKU Management reopens University today after 40-day closure

Mardan (May 22, 2017): Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) Mardan on Monday was reopened amid tight security arrangements after 40 days closure following the lynching of Mashal Khan, a student of the University’s Mass Communication Department, on charges of blasphemy.

As per details, AWKU was reopened on Monday after 40-day long closure following the riots and lynching of a student of the university on blasphemy charges. Last night police conducted search operation in the University’s hostel. During the operation police searched hostel’s rooms and recovered arms and other illicit objects.

The decision to reopen the university was taken at a high level meeting few days ago. Last day, Mashal’s chehlum was observed in his native area Swabi.

Strict security arrangements have been made on the reopening day at the University campus. Each and every student is being allowed to entre the campus after thorough search. All vehicles entering the university are also being searched as heavy contingent of police and security staff are deployed.

It is to be mentioned here that yesterday police conducted search operation in hostels and recovered four pistols, 10 magazines, 95 rounds, one knife, 200 grams chars and one empty bottle of liquor.
