Babar Azam equals Kohli’s unwanted record in international cricket

LAHORE: Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has matched an undesirable record previously set by India’s Virat Kohli.

During the opening match of the ODI home series against Sri Lanka, Babar managed 29 runs before being bowled by Hasaranga.

This dismissal marked his 83rd innings without an international century, equaling Kohli’s record for the same drought.

Babar last reached triple digits in international cricket during the 2023 Asia Cup with a stunning century against Nepal. Similarly, Kohli had experienced an 83-innings stretch without a century before ending his dry spell in 2023.

For perspective, Sri Lanka’s current head coach and former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya, holds the record for the longest gap between centuries, having endured an 88-innings streak. Former West Indies player Shivnarine Chanderpaul also faced a comparable phase, ending his century drought after 78 innings
