Bahawalpur: Student Accused Of Murdering Professor Remanded To Police Custody

BAHAWALPUR: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday has remanded the prime suspect of professor’s murder case to police custody for 15 days.

The son of the deceased professor has told media that the accused wanted to stop the funfair festival celebrations at the college and that’s why he killed his dad.

A day earlier, a student stabbed his college professor to death for arranging a mixed-gender reception at the institution.

The incident took place at Govt. Sadiq Egerton College Bahawalpur where a college student killed his professor after stabbing him multiple times with a knife.

The deceased identified as Khalid Hamid who was a professor of the college’s English department, police said.

He was also the brother of well-known chest specialist Dr Naveed Shareef and was well reputed among the people of Bahawalpur.

Professor Khalid Hamid was checking examination copies in his room early morning when the student involved him in a conversation first then later attacked him with a knife, police added.

Police took suspect Khateeb Hussain in custody and also confiscated the offender’s knife in their possession. Khalid Hamid’s body was shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for the post mortem.

Moreover, the college has been sealed until any further notice.

Punjab CM Usman Buzdar has also ordered RPO Bahawalpur to submit a detailed report into this matter.
