Balochistan attacks thwarted: 10 security personnel martyred, 67 terrorists killed

RAWALPINDI: Security forces successfully repelled a series of coordinated attacks across Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of 10 police and security personnel, while 67 India-backed terrorists were neutralized, security sources said on Saturday.

According to the sources, militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH) launched assaults at 12 different locations late Friday night and early Saturday. Swift and coordinated action by security forces and other law enforcement agencies foiled all attempts. Operations are still underway in some areas, with reports suggesting further militant losses.

Tragically, five members of a Baloch labourer family from Khuzdar, including a woman and three children, were martyred during one of the attacks in Gwadar.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the fallen security personnel, commending the armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice. He said the nation takes pride in its martyrs and reaffirmed that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism will continue until the threat is fully eliminated. The prime minister emphasized national unity and unwavering support for the armed forces.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attacks and praised the security forces and law enforcement agencies for thwarting the militants’ plans. Paying homage to the martyrs, he said their sacrifices would always be remembered and that they remain heroes of the nation.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti stated that the attacks were defeated through joint operations conducted by the police and Frontier Corps. He stressed that such incidents would not weaken the resolve of the state against terrorism.

During a visit to a blast site in Quetta, CM Bugti reviewed the security situation and met police and paramilitary personnel. He was briefed by Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir and lauded the Counter-Terrorism Department for its prompt response.

“Anti-state elements will not be shown any leniency. Peace in Balochistan is non-negotiable,” the chief minister said.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the attacks as a desperate attempt by FAH, noting that heightened alertness and preparedness of security forces prevented major damage. He added that terrorists involved in targeting innocent civilians, including Baloch labourers, are being relentlessly pursued with the support of aerial surveillance.

Tarar further said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remains fully informed and is in constant coordination with relevant authorities. The latest developments follow intelligence-based operations carried out a day earlier, during which 41 Indian-sponsored militants were killed in two separate engagements in Balochistan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 30 terrorists were eliminated on the outskirts of Harnai district on January 29, while 11 others were killed in Panjgur district. Weapons, ammunition, and looted cash from a bank robbery in Panjgur last December were also recovered.

These counterterrorism efforts come amid a rise in cross-border militant activity since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, in a press briefing on January 6, revealed that law enforcement agencies conducted 75,175 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan in 2025, including 58,778 in Balochistan, 14,658 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 1,739 in other parts of the country.
