Balochistan traders commit to early market, wedding hall closures to conserve energy

QUETTA: Balochistan’s business community has pledged full support for the government’s energy conservation measures, agreeing to close markets by 8 pm and wedding halls by 10 pm.

The commitment came during a meeting in Quetta on Monday between Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and representatives of local traders. The Chief Minister highlighted the severe energy situation facing the province and the country as a whole.

He warned that following challenges with petroleum products, Pakistan could face a broader energy crisis, emphasizing the need for austerity measures in the national interest. “At this critical time, we must act as responsible citizens,” he said.

Traders expressed their agreement with the proposed measures, assuring that they would fully comply with the government’s directive to limit market hours to 8 pm and wedding hall operations to 10 pm. The business community also affirmed its intention to actively support other initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption across the province.

The collaboration between the government and local traders is being seen as a key step toward mitigating potential power shortages and promoting energy-saving practices in Balochistan.
