ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has asked response from secretary interior, secretary law, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Pemra over a petition seeking a ban on Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) over its anti-army and other institution rhetoric.
Justice Amir Farooq of the IHC heard the petition demanding a ban on the PTM.
Advocate Shoaib Razzaq represented the petitioner and argued that the element belonging to the PTM are defaming the country and the army and they are using electronic media and social media for their heinous purposes and insisted the court to issues orders to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to remove all negative propaganda by the PTM from social media adding that the PTM also violated Pemra’s code of conduct.
Justice Amir Farooq remarked that if someone enjoys the independence of expression then others also have the same rights while freedom of expression is not unlimited.
The judge said that they will not issue the order for a person while we will issue direction for institutions so that policy could be formed.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 13 after approving PTA request to give it time to submit the response.
Issuing notices to Ali Wazir, Mohsin Dawar, Manzoor Pashteen, the Court asked response as well from them on the next hearing.
