Barrister Gohar Ali Khan vows to defend Judiciary at all costs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan issued a stern warning on Thursday, suggesting that recent government actions could plunge the nation into political instability.

In an exclusive interview, Gohar criticized the controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment, claiming it threatens the independence and authority of the Supreme Court.

He emphasized that efforts are underway to preserve democratic processes, warning that any reckless decisions could lead to chaos and unrest across the country. Gohar pointed out that while the Supreme Court still exists, its integrity has been compromised, noting that the current Chief Justice has not taken the oath in the court, highlighting a constitutional crisis within the judiciary.

Reaffirming his party’s stance, Gohar declared that PTI would stand firmly to protect judicial independence, citing ongoing protests and plans to raise the issue in the National Assembly. He distinguished between the 26th and 27th amendments, criticizing the latter for stripping the Supreme Court of essential rights and calling for reforms that strengthen institutions rather than weaken them.

The PTI leader also recalled past pressures faced by the judiciary but pledged that his party’s mission remains to restore its independence and shield it from political interference. Concluding his remarks, Gohar reaffirmed PTI’s unwavering commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law, viewing these recent developments as a critical juncture for Pakistan’s democratic and judicial landscape.
